Virginia Sports Medicine Institute Voted one of the area's top Sports Medicine Physical Therapy clinics by Washingtonian Magazine
At Virginia Sports Medicine Institute (VSI) we treat all patients from recreational to professional athletes with care, compassion and expertise. VSI was founded in
1974 as one of the first sports medicine facilities in the United States.
Our 4000 square foot facility houses a vast array of the most current rehabilitative equipment and is staffed by the area's leading physical therapists. All
therapists are registered and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Health Professionals. The staff has extensive experience in treating orthopedic
and sports medicine injuries. Virginia Sports Medicine Institute has a medical team consisting of five physical therapists, all with Master's or Doctoral level
degrees. In addition, our clinic has three physical therapy assistants with Associate degrees and each with greater than fifteen years of clinical experience. The
final component of our rehabilitative team consists of four gym technicians who are trained extensively on the proper use of our gym equipment as well as the
appropriate technique for prescribed exercises. We have worked with a wide range of patients ranging from the professional to the everyday recreational athlete.
We pride ourselves at Virginia Sports Medicine Institute on our thirty-four year history of excellent patient care and quality service. In November of 2007, the
clinic underwent a complete renovation of the facility.

VSI provides comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitative services for a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. By Virginia law, patients can only be seen with
a physician's referral. The physician's prescription should include a diagnosis, frequency and duration of treatment, and any special instructions for treating your
injury. It is through the combined effort of physician, therapist and patient that an effective program can be developed and carried out.

General Policies
Patients are seen by appointment only and must have a current prescription from a physician, no more than 1 month old. Prescriptions from out of state physicians are
welcome. Your first appointment usually lasts 1 to 1 ½ hours and follow-up visits run about one hour. Please come with proper work out attire (i.e. tennis shoes, shorts
or sweat pants and loose fitting shirt).
Due to the great demand for appointments it is advisable to schedule follow-up appointments in advance to avoid delays in treatment and in order to get the appointment
times that are convenient to your schedule. We request 24 hour notification in case of a cancellation.
At the time of your first appointment, you will be evaluated by a physical therapist to determine the extent of your injury and address any problem areas. Once your
initial evaluation is complete an individualized treatment program is developed to help you return to your normal activities as quickly as possible. Your physician is
then advised of pertinent evaluation findings and will be sent updates as your treatment progresses.
VSI is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 7 pm. After hours voice mail is available to receive messages as needed.
