Dr. Wellborn began his college education at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology. Dr. Wellborn attended medical school at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York and completed his residency at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Wellborn's work has earned him membership in various organizations including:

  • Fellow in American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery
     

  • California Orthopaedic Association

Dr. Wellborn has spent nine years working in a private practice in Santa Barbara County. He has worked as general orthopaedic surgeon with a special interests in:

  • Joint replacement surgery of the hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow
     

  • Minimally invasive hip and knee replacements

  •  Gender specific knee replacements

     

  •  Computer navigation based surgery

Dr. Wellborn has also treated disorders of the upper and lower extremities with operative and non operative modalities for all age groups and activity levels.

 

During Dr. Wellborn's college career, he was very involved in swimming and earned several awards and records including:

  • Four varsity letters

  •  Most dedicated award and

     

  •  School record in distance freestyle

Dr. Wellborn is dedicated to community service and has worked as the team physician for Cabrillo High School in California.
