Dr. Nirschl received his orthopedic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester MN. In the early 70's Dr. Nirschl's research of sporting techniques sparked new treatment techniques in the area of tendon injuries.

As a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of sports and tendon injuries, Dr. Nirschl's approaches to care of injuries to the elbow, shoulder, and knee are internationally recognized:

  • Invited onto Good Morning America to speak on the topic of sports medicine injuries.
     
  • Selected as one of the Washington DC areas top physicians in Washingtonian magazines "Top Doctors",
     
  • Listed in The Best Physicians in the United States, Marquis Who's Who in health care, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the world.
     
  • Recipient of the prestigious Welburn Award from his physician peers of the Arlington County Medical Society, for outstanding service to medicine and to the community.
     

Dr. Nirschl's contributions to the international medical and local community have been significant, as his commitment to serve and educate are foremost:

  • Founding director of orthopedic and primary care sportsmedicine fellowship teaching programs in conjunction with Virginia Hospital Center Arlington and Georgetown University. NOSC offers the only ACGME accredited Sportsmedicine programs in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
     
  • Medical consultant, team physician, surgeon for professional, college, and recreational athletes, including local Virginia high schools and Marymount University.
     
  • Associate clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at Georgetown University.
     
  • Medical consultant to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports during the Reagan Administration.
     
  • Founding member of the US Tennis Association Sports Science Committee.
     
  • Currently serving as a counselor to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, and member of the fellowship directors committee of the American Orthopedic Sports Medicine Society.
    Author of many orthopedic educational materials, including his latest book, Arm Care.
     
  • Lecturer and key note speaker nationally and internationally including Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
