Dr. Wellborn completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he lettered all four years as a distance swimmer. He obtained his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He finished his residency training at George Washington University in Washington, DC. After nearly 10 years in practice in Santa Barbara, California, he returned in 2007.

Dr. Wellborn specializes in joint reconstruction and preservation of shoulders, knees and hips, and is well trained on the modern techniques of minimally invasive, gender specific and computer assisted surgery. As a general orthopaedic surgeon, he is well experienced in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine and trauma. He enjoys treating injuries of all age groups including the pediatric and adolescent athlete and has served as team physician for Lake Braddock Secondary School since 2008.
